I wanted to share some of the great things all around Charlotte. I try to "live life like a tourist" and actually visit the great things our area has to offer. One great day trip is a visit to Gold Hill NC. Gold Hill is about 1 hour from uptown Charlotte. It is located northeast of Charlotte off of I-85. Gold Hill was actually a mining town and was a gold rush town in the early 1800's.
The town is still loaded with character with several small shops, antiques and a great restaurant. The park walks you through some of the local history and helped me to appreciate the work of the miners. Much of the gold was found as veins buried in quartz. The miners had to remove quartz, have the quartz crushed and then extract the gold. Is there still Gold in these hills? I am certain some still exists. The greater Charlotte area is loaded with Quartz and I am there are still gold traces! The process to extract the gold is the challenge but it in fact still around.
Take a drive to Gold Hill and enjoy the day! Life is and adventure. Your Charlotte Home is wonderful; now it is time to look around and experience more of what the greater Charlotte area has to offer.
